"You legend, you fit more into your short life than most fit into 80 years," a friend Jenna McCarney wrote.

"So many broken hearts across the globe today, you will be missed."

Another friend, Damien Cole, said he wished the news wasn't true.

"He was the most genuine person you will ever meet. I'll miss sharing waves, having brewskis and listening to you belt out some bangers," he wrote.

"You will be sorely missed by everyone and never forgotten."

A GoFundMe page was set up to help Mr Haydon's family with expenses and to help bring him home.

In a statement on the fundraising page, his mother and sister thanks Mr Haydon's friends for their support.

“To our free spirit Jae, who roamed the world and lived the life we all dreamed of, who brought incredible joy to loads of people in this world, lost his life in Uluwatu, Bali yesterday.

"We love you Jae with all our hearts and will miss you terribly every day and know you’ll spend your time swingin’ life away.

"We cannot thank the efforts his beautiful friends went to to keep me in the loop, travel around Bali on the search and just keep the hope alive. You’ve shown us just how loved he was (even though we already knew).

"All our love Mum and Heidz xoxo”

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokeswoman said the department was providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man in Bali.

"Owing to our privacy obligations we will not provide further comment.”
