Canberra BMX star Caroline Buchanan is in "good spirits" and "moving in a positive direction" after her crash on Saturday.

Buchanan spent three days in intensive care after the off-road vehicle she was travelling in rolled on a private property outside of Canberra.

The eight-time world champion is now recovering from a broken sternum, broken nose and collapsed lungs in a private room having spent New Year's Eve in the intensive care unit.

Buchanan shared graphic images of her injuries on Instagram on Tuesday night.

Buchanan was expected to make a full recovery and will use her social media to keep fans updated about her progress.

Cycling Australia released a statement about the 27-year-old on Wednesday.

"Cycling Australia has confirmed that Australian BMX athlete Caroline Buchanan is progressing well following a vehicle roll-over on Saturday, December 30," the statement said.

"Buchanan was with a friend in an off-road vehicle on private property outside Canberra when the accident happened on Saturday afternoon.

"The family has confirmed that Caroline is in good spirits and that everything has been moving in a positive direction since confirmation of her injuries (broken sternum, broken nose and collapsed lungs).

"She is expected to make a full recovery and will keep fans updated on her progress via her social media channels."
