Few people ever see plant borers, but they certainly notice the damage -- showing up as lack of vigor, discolored or dying leaves, and irregular swelling on branches and trunks. Treating borers depends on the type you're dealing with. Many borers are beetles and are easy to treat with a tree and shrub treatment containing Imidacloprid. Apply this as a drench and the tree will take it up through its roots, killing borers from the inside. Other borers are moths, for which no treatment is available. The best option for treating moth borers is tree pruning and tree trimming. Plants recover from borers with good care, but if you find that a particular plant is continuously attacked in your garden, it may be wise to try a different plant.
