A RED carpet stunt pulled by Ryan Seacrest has been slammed as “awkward” and “disrespectful” towards George and Amal Clooney at the Golden Globes.

The E! News host pulled the newlyweds aside and presented them with ‘Game Over’ T-shirts, supposedly because he didn’t get to congratulate them before their September 2014 wedding.

The camera then panned to the E! crew, who were all wearing shirts emblazoned with the logo, which featured a sad faced man and a smiling woman, too.

Ever the professionals, the awkward presentation was greeted with polite laughter from George and Amal — but the twittersphere were less than impressed:

To make matters worse, further down the red carpet fellow E! host Giuliana Rancic pulled the couple aside for a second time, and attempted to get them to have a tequila shot with her. The tequila she was proffering was George’s own brand so the gesture wasn’t entirely bizarre, but he was forced to decline — both on and off camera — because he is presenting later in the evening. Rancic eventually took a shot on her own.

Unfortunately, with all the tequila talk Rancic missed the chance to highlight George’s “Je Suis Charlie” button pinned to his Armani suit. This pretty much sums the moment up:

While introducing her Dior gown to Seacrest, Amal also acknowledged the tragedy, saying her dress had been “customised in solidarity with the French people who’ve gone through a terrible week.” Seacrest let the comment pass.

Unlike the E! interviews, Clooney’s white gloves, which she had sown together that morning, were a hit:
