A MID-AIR incident has unfolded on a Virgin Australia flight from Melbourne to the Gold Coast on Friday afternoon.

Five crew members are believed to have suffered smoke inhalation and were treated by paramedics after reports smoke entered the cockpit.

A statement from Gold Coast Airport confirmed the incident.

“Gold Coast Airport confirms an incident occurred this afternoon, with smoke detected in the cockpit of an arriving Virgin Australia aircraft that departed from Melbourne.

“The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew have since disembarked. Emergency services are on site.”

A Virgin Australia spokesperson said flight VA745 landed safely.

“The aircraft was met on arrival by emergency services as a precautionary measure after smoke was detected in the cockpit,” Virgin said in the statement.

“All passengers and crew safely disembarked the aircraft. Engineers are currently investigating the potential cause.”

Nine News Gold Coast reports that none of the crew required further treatment at hospital.
