The Australian dollar is slightly lower after US stocks suffered significant falls as concerns about a trade war loom.

At 0635 AEST on Friday, the local currency was worth 75.66 US cents, down from 75.76 US cents on Thursday.

Wall Street stocks are lower after the US decided to impose metal import tariffs on Canada, Mexico and the European Union.

One Australian dollar buys 82.33 Japanese yen, from 82.28 yen and 64.70 euro cents, from 64.83 euro cents.
