A BRITISH passenger has reportedly died after falling from a plane onto a runway in Turkey.

The 30-year-old man was rushed to hospital with broken ribs after he fell about 15m from the passenger jet on the tarmac at Dalaman Airport, in southwest Turkey.

He died in hospital a short time later, Turkey’s Hurriyet Daily News reported.

The newspaper said workers at the airport were trying to remove the man from his flight to the UK when he fell from an exit.

The man had reportedly been waiting at the airport for a flight to the UK for three days after he lost his ticket.

He eventually boarded a flight around 3am on Tuesday, local time, and became involved in an argument with cabin crew, however the nature of the argument was not clear.

The pilot then ordered him off the plane as a risk to flight safety, the paper said.

Hurriyet reported Turkish police were investigating the man’s death as a suicide.

In a statement, a spokesman for the UK Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the family of the British man following his death in Turkey and we are in touch with the local authorities.”

Dalaman Airport is one of the busiest airports in Turkey, with some four million passengers travelling through each year.

It serves popular Turkish seaside resorts such as Marmaris and Fethiye.
