TRIPLE premiership Lion Jonathan Brown has implored in-form forward Jordan De Goey to strongly consider honouring Collingwood’s loyalty and re-sign with the club — even if a rival team offers him an extra $200,000.

De Goey, out of contract at season’s end, is certain to attract the interest of rival clubs should he seek a change of scenery, while his value to Collingwood is also rising with every impressive game.

Since returning from a club-imposed suspension for drink-driving, the 22-year-old has developed into one of the most damaging forwards in the competition, booting five goals against Brisbane in Round 7 then a career-high six majors against St Kilda this past weekend.

But when the time comes to consider his footy future, Brown said De Goey must consider how much faith Collingwood had shown in him over recent years.

And if that meant staying at the Pies on less money that he could receive elsewhere, so be it.

“I think Jordan De Goey really needs to consider the support he’s received from Collingwood. They’ve handled him brilliantly after his drink-driving charge, managed him really well,” Brown told Fox Footy’s On The Couch.

“We know the clubs are going to come for him, so what’s the amount of money he’ll leave for? I would argue if another club offers me $200,000 more, I’m still staying at Collingwood. It’s going to have to be a big figure — I’m thinking $200,000 plus (to leave the Pies).

“Jordan De Goey’s got a big decision to make, but he should considering very, very closely whether he leaves Collingwood or not.”

De Goey, taken with Pick 5 in the 2014 draft, played his first few seasons at Collingwood as a midfielder, but has soared in value over recent weeks as a forward.

But Swans premiership coach Paul Roos said the Magpies, as well as rival clubs, had to keep in mind that De Goey is only just starting to show glimpses of his best this season.

“You’d love to be a player today, because you don’t have to play a lot of really good football to get $800,000. This is not demeaning about Jordan De Goey, because I’m as big a fan as anyone, but I think it’s just the environment we’re in,” Roos said.

“With 18 teams, with everyone looking for talent, with bottom teams trying to get up the top of the ladder, we’re seeing inflated prices because players are now more likely to go to market before they settle for their old (team).

“In the old days, it used to be give your team the opportunity first (and) if you’re happy with that contract, don’t worry too much about what’s going on. (But) this is a new frontier.”
