A YOUNG boy has died after being hit by a car in Port Augusta.

Police and emergency services were dispatched to Victoria Parade about 7pm after receiving reports that a car and a pedestrian had collided.

The pedestrian — an eight-year-old boy from Port Augusta — was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away.

Major Crash investigators will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Road closures are in place and police ask people to avoid the area if possible.
