London: Top human rights lawyer Amal Clooney will serve as a lawyer for two Myanmar journalists who were arrested under the country's colonial-era Official Secrets Act, the law firm she works for has confirmed.

Clooney said in a statement released by Britain-based Doughty Street Chambers on Thursday that she decided to take the case because she believed the Reuters journalists, Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, are innocent and the case reflects press freedom in Myanmar.

Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were arrested in December for allegedly possessing documents pertaining to the country's Rakhine State, from which nearly 700,000 Rohingya have fled since a brutal army crackdown launched in August and called ethnic cleansing by the United Nations.
