A NEIGHBOUR has described her horror as she drove two seriously burned men to hospital “with skin hanging off them everywhere”.
Kayleen Crowe lives at a block of units in Albany St, Point Frederick where an explosion this afternoon injured two men and a baby.
One of the men is believed to be the baby’s father. The baby’s mother was also there but was not injured.
Ms Crowe said the sound of an explosion and breaking glass rocked her unit before she heard screaming.
She said the men had wrapped themselves in wet towels and were able to walk to the car but were extensively burned all over their bodies.
“He was screaming in pain - both of them were. He kept saying ‘I’m going to die’.
“The police said I probably saved their lives by getting them to hospital.
“I hope to God they are alright.”
Other neighbours Kristy St John and Trent Smith said they were in their lounge room watching TV when they heard a massive bang, and screaming and crying.
“My house filled with smoke - it smelled like rubber,” she said.
Ms St John said she believed a butane gas bottle had exploded.
The baby, with minor burns to its face, was taken to Gosford Hospital by ambulance.
Five ambulance crews responded to reports of the explosion about 3pm.
An 18-year-old with burns to 70 per cent of his body, was transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, where his condition at 6pm was described as “serious but stable”.
A 24-year-old man, with burns to 30 per cent of his body, and the baby, both remained at Gosford Hospital in a stable condition.
