Hot and windy conditions have fanned a number of fires across Victoria, including one at an old defence facility in Melbourne's inner west.
The fire at Maribyrnong broke out at the former munitions factory site on Cordite Avenue just before 1:00pm, consuming three disused buildings and spreading to grassland.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade said crews initially did not know what was burning inside the buildings and were forced to wait for advice from the Defence Department before they could move in.
It was brought under control at 4:30pm.
There is currently no threat to the community but a smoke warning has been issued for residents in Avondale Heights, Maidstone and Maribyrnong.
In northern Victoria an emergency warning has been issued for an out-of-control grassfire near Whitfield, north-east of Mansfield.
The fire is burning on Boggy Creek Rd, at Myrrhee, and has prompted an emergency warning for the communities of Myrrhee, Whitfield and Whitlands.
The fire is travelling north-easterly towards Patterson Lane, Benalla-Whitfield Rd, Roberts and Peipers Lane and Myrrhee-Whitlands Road.
The CFA said people in the area were in danger and they should shelter in place.
Watch-and-act messages have been issued for surrounding areas, including Jarrott, King Valley, Pieper, Whitfield and Edi Upper.

A large fire also broke out at a recycling facility at Laverton North, in Melbourne's west.
The MFB said about 50 firefighters were battling the blaze involving a pile of rubber and plastic.
Grassfires also flared up across Victoria, including Red Hill South on the Mornington Peninsula, near Camperdown in the state's south-west, and Whittlesea, in Melbourne's north.
