A mother and her two young children have been formally identified as those found dead in a burnt-out house in Canberra's north last Monday.

ACT Policing Superintendent Scott Moller said Anne Muhoro, 45, her son Ezvin, 8, and her daughter Furaha, 5, originally from Kenya, were found inside the Bonner home by firefighters.

Authorities were called to the fire about 8:40am last Monday.

The fire destroyed the property and ACT Policing said it was deliberately lit and no-one was in custody.

Later that day a man was taken into custody to assist with inquiries but was released without charge.

Today Superintendent Moller said investigations were ongoing into the blaze, which is being treated as suspicious.

No cause of death has been confirmed.

He called for anyone with dashcam footage from midnight until 8:45am on Monday February 19 to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

"This is a tragic situation and everyone gets affected by it and everyone that we've spoken to is heartbroken," he said.

Superintendent Moller also defended the time in which it had taken to identify the deceased.

"The identification process is really complex, it involves a number of agencies and does involve DNA matching," he said.

"It takes time and certainly I'm not going to compromise the integrity of the investigation to speed it up."
