A CYCLIST who was caught on camera riding through multiple red lights in Perth has copped a string of abuse from an angry motorist.

The dash cam footage was uploaded to the Drivers for Registration of Cyclists Facebook page and shows the cyclist zooming past cars stopped at a right light on Adelaide Terrace.

The driver of the car immediately becomes enraged, yelling after the rider and calling him “arrogant”.

The woman speeds up next to the cyclist and shouts out the window “So you’re allowed to run red lights are ya?”

The motorist drives off past the rider and who, moments later, overtakes the car once more.

The driver immediately starts cursing at the cyclist, calling him out for not allowing one metre when passing.

“One metre mate, one f***ing metre,” she is heard saying.

Western Australian driving laws state that drivers cannot overtake at less than one metre distance in a 60km/h zone and 1.5 metre distance above that.

So while this rule is in place for motorists, it is understood that it does not apply to cyclists.

As the driver once again speeds up next to the rider, the cyclist laughs while saying: “You’re on camera”.

“So are you,” the motorist quips back.

As the car slows down to stop at a red light, the cyclist is again seen driving straight though, before riding on to the footpath.

The driver continues to hurl abuse at the cyclist, as he cuts back on to the road in front of her.

The video sparked an online debate, with some slamming the cyclist for his dangerous riding, while others claimed the driver’s reaction was uncalled for.

“I’m a cyclist myself and there is no way I would run a red light. I don’t want to be road kill at an intersection,” one person commented.

“Wow so cyclist runs 2 red lights, jumps into the foot path for a bit then leaps back onto the road cutting off the car, imagine if a car drove in the same manner,” another person said.

“I really don’t get why they think the road rules don’t apply to them. It’s just moronic,” a person commented.

Some people thought the driver was acting was recklessly than the cyclist.

“As much as I agree the cyclist was in the wrong, yelling out and continuing to abuse the rider like that is a bit moronic. The driver wasn’t focused on the road and could have cause an accident themselves,” one said.

Another added: “Gees lady just let it go, it’s not worth the risk of something going wrong while your attention is drawn to him, save your breath and concentrate on the road ahead”.
