In 2015, Macquarie Dictionary added a new word to its lexicon: fur baby. The term is an apt description of the country’s increasingly pampered pets.

According to a 2016 report from Animal Medicines Australia, 65 per cent of dog owners and 66 per cent of cat owners regard their four-legged friends as part of the family. And they’re spending accordingly.
