It's unclear how the man died, with homicide squad now investigating the suspicious circumstances of how his body came to be near the stairway entrance to an apartment block in Notting Hill.

Paramedics were called just after 9.30am on Friday but we're unable to revive the man.

Police have blocked off Rusden Place and students living in the apartment blocks have been interviewed.

The apartment block is separated from Monash University's Clayton campus by the busy Blackburn Road.
