A Watch and Act warning has been issued for the eastern Lake Eildon area.

Anyone in Howqua, Howqua Inlet, Lake Eildon, Macs Cove is being urged to leave the area because of an out-of-control bushfire in a difficult-to-access area of Howqua.

The message reads: Don't wait, leaving now is the safest option - conditions may change and get worse very quickly. Emergency Services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.

The major bushfire flashpoints in that state at the moment are in East Gippland and near the New South Wales border at Corryong.

But that orange icon on the map in the Lake Eildon area only flared up today. There are some fires burning in the region bounded by that blue circle around Myrtleford and Bright, but at this stage the warning level there hasn't escalated.
