Savour the Fruit-driven Wines of Richard Hamilton Wines

It is often said that wines represent the very best essence of the vineyard. Similarly, Australia’s Richard Hamilton Wines are reflective of the distinctive McLaren Vale region with its Mediterranean climate producing great value, fruit-driven wines. Founded in 1837 by Dr. Richard Hamilton and wife Jette, the family-owned vineyard has some of the oldest vines in the region, including the vineyard that produces the Centurion Old Vines Shiraz, vines which were established in 1892. The family have been involved in winemaking and grape growing for five generations. The wines are rich, intense and delightfully delicious.

Here’s a closer look at the best wines from Richard Hamilton Wines:

2018 Richard Hamilton ‘Centurion’ 126 Year Old Vines Shiraz
Situated at the back of the Old Hut Block, the gnarly Shiraz vines are grown in grey loams over old river clay with underlying limestone. The resultant wine flaunts a deep, dark red colour with bright scarlet hues. Beautifully integrated with the finest French oak, the elegant yet rich drink has perfumed fruit showing plum and cherry nuances with hints of cloves and nutmeg. Ripe, long, fine, silky tannins provide a wonderfully elegant structure to this Shiraz.

2018 Richard Hamilton ‘Little Road’ Shiraz

2019 was an outstanding year in McLaren Vale. The 'Little Road' Shiraz presents excellent fruit definition and length and typifies both the Shiraz fruit and the McLaren Vale region. The full-bodied and richly flavoured drink flaunts attractive persistence of flavour with a round mid-palate structure and a backbone of fine-grained, silky tannins.

2018 Leconfield Cabernet Franc
From 1982 plantings, Leconfield has been producing award-winning Cabernet Franc. The fragrant wine with notes of rose blossom exhibits the richness of flavour with a silky texture and medium body. The rounded tannins provide lovely persistence. Try this lovely drink with anything Italian or French-inspired or soft cheeses.

2016 Leconfield Coonawarra ‘The Sydney’ Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

A true Reserve wine, the key to 'The Sydney' is the vineyard selection made at harvest. Flaunting a full deep red colour with crimson hues, the wine emanates rich cassis fruit aromas enhanced with savoury, integrated fine French oak. The long, stylish palate with silky tannins provides persistence. You may pair it with many styles of food from tender eye fillet and roasted vegetable lasagne to full flavoured risotto.

Today Richard Hamilton has grown the family business into two internationally acclaimed wine brands - Richard Hamilton Wines at McLaren Vale and Leconfield Coonawarra. Together with his wife Jette, their son Thomas and daughter Annasofia, they continue the Hamilton winemaking legacy into its sixth generation.
