Watch as BHG explains how to make sure your meat is safe for eating by using a meat thermometer. There are two basic kinds of meat thermometers -- oven-going and instant read. For larger meats, use the oven-going meat thermometer before roasting. Stick the thermometer two inches into the thickest portion of the meat -- avoiding fat and bone. When the thermometer reaches 145-155 degrees, it is dinner time! The second type of meat thermometer is an instant read meat thermometer. Use this thermometer when the cooking is done by placing it in the meat the same way as an oven-going thermometer. Wait f 15-20 seconds for a correct reading. This easy step in making meats is a safety must!
