If you have newly planted trees in your landscape, there a few tips on lawn maintenance for fall to ensure they get through the winters. First, wrap the tree trunk with burlap or paper wrap to reduce sun scald and frost cracking. Keep this wrap until bud break in spring. Second, add mulch to the base of the tree trunk. This helps the tree from coming out of dormancy too soon in spring. Fall is also the time to prune trees. The few trees that are best for fall pruning are Birch, Walnut, and some Maples.
