Watch as Better Homes and Gardens shows you how to make salsa in just 3 steps! This salsa recipe is used in Mexican food, using peppers to create hot salsa recipes. To start making salsa, preheat your broiler while using a paring knife to core and quarter 3 large tomatoes. Peel 5 cloves of garlic (or leave them whole) to add to the vegetables, along with 1 fresh jalapeno pepper, which you can stem, de-seed, and cut with gloves on. Add the jalapeno to the bowl and add just enough vegetable oil to coat it all--about 2 to 3 tablespoons. Coat the vegetables with the oil, spreading them evenly into a 5 x 10 x 1 inch baking pan. Broil them 5 to 6 inches from the heat for 8 minutes, turning them with tongs and broiling again until the edges darken. As you are broiling vegetables, snip 1 cup of fresh cilantro and juice 2 to 3 limes. Allow the vegetables to cool in the broiling pan for 10 minutes, then transfer them with their juices to a food processor. Pulse the mixture until the vegetables are coarsely chopped, adding cilantro, lime juice, and 1/2 a teaspoon of sugar to the salsa dip. Pulse the homemade salsa until it is your desired consistency, seasoning with salt. Serve this fresh salsa immediately or cover and chill it for up to 3 days. This roasted salsa roja recipe is perfect for Mexican dishes or just as an easy salsa to whip out at parties!
