On this episode of American Dog, Victoria Stilwell takes you to Aspen, Colorado, to give you an inside look at two wonderful dog stories: Aspen Ski Patrol's Avalanche Dog Program and Skijoring with trainer Louisa Morrissey. The Avalanche Dog Program serves a critical role in the event of an avalanche. Dogs are trained using reward and confidence-building techniques as they learn to quickly locate avalanche victims who are buried in the snow. In the next segment, Victoria introduces you to the sport of Skijoring with trainer Louisa Morrissey. Skijoring is basically dog sledding but with skis. Louisa's uses positive reinforcement training techniques to build confidence and a strong sense of teamwork between the dogs and handlers.
