Sarah is an orphan. She was rescued from the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal by a Christian pastor and his wife. Today, along with 7 other boys and girls, she is fed, sheltered, and protected by a mother and father who love her.
Just before we shot this video of Sarah drawing a picture of what she thinks 'mercy' is, there was a commotion at the front gate of her house. An angry, drunk man was hollering at Sarah's mother through the gate, rudely shouting at her to give him some money.
After that, it was no surprise that Sarah's drawing of mercy revealed a person giving to a beggar. Sarah knows what it means to have nothing, to fear, to hunger, and to need the mercy of others. Although the beggar was obnoxious and vulgar toward her mother, Sarah somehow understood that she should still show him kindness.
In spite of our own shortcomings and sins, God still shows mercy toward us. The Bible tells us that God, "being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ." (Ephesians 2:4-5) That is, even though we don't deserve God's favor, He gives us favor because of His great love and rich mercy.
Children's Hunger Fund provides Food Paks and other aid for hungry children and families as our expression of God's mercy. Because He showed us mercy, we are compelled to show mercy to others. And as we do, hope is delivered.
