Mercy is... sharing with friends on a beautiful day.
Julio loves to play outside. But playing is always better when shared with a friend or two... or three.
In Julio's drawing of what he thinks mercy is, he drew three friends holding hands and running outside under a beautiful rainbow. At first you might not think of this as mercy -- not getting what you deserve. But consider this; each one of our friends is a merciful gift from God.
It's true. Because of God's love for us, he gives us friends to share in our joys and our sorrows, and to care for us when we need help -- even when we don't deserve it.
The bible tells us to care for the needs of our friends. "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith." (Galatians 6:9-10)
One of the reasons Children's Hunger Fund chooses to help the poor through local churches, is that the people in churches are expected to care for one another. So for a church in a poor village like Julio's, their natural impulse is care for the needs of the suffering children, both outside of the church and in.
