Have you ever been really hungry? Most of us know what it's like to skip breakfast or to be late for dinner. In those times, we can feel tired, cranky, or even feel the pain of a grumbling stomach. But for many children across the United States, hunger is not easily relieved.
Annette's drawing shows a friendly neighbor bringing food to the home of a hungry family. Imagine the happiness in this little home when they realize that they will be able to eat today.
In the Bible, Jesus tells a story about three people who passed by a man who had been injured and robbed, but only one of them stopped to help.
Jesus then asked this question; "Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?"
When the man listening to Jesus answered, "The one who showed him mercy," Jesus replied, "You go, and do likewise." (Luke 10:25-37)
As Christians, Jesus expects us to show mercy to those who need it. This can be done through acts of compassion like bringing food to a hungry family. But mercy is best displayed when we also tell them about God's ultimate mercy toward each one of us through the good news of His son.
