Some of the gloss appears to be wearing off Kyle Sandilands' crown following a sharp decline in the latest ratings for Sydney's FM radio king.

Meanwhile, over at struggling rival 2Day FM, there has been a much-needed boost for breakfast duo Dan Debuf and Maz Compton, who may have pulled up from their ratings death spiral just in time before hitting the ground.

Debuf and Compton put on .9 of a point to reach 3.3 in what station owners Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) will hope is an indication listeners are warming to the pair in their new timeslot. SCA is also hoping the return of Hamish Blake and Andy Lee to the national drive slot will significantly boost their fortunes overall.

KIIS1065's Sandilands and sidekick Jackie Henderson lost 1.5 points to subside to 8.6, placing them on level pegging with stablemates Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller (WSFM).

And while one bad ratings result isn't cause to reach for the panic button, this marks the fourth consecutive ratings fall for the high-profile pair, who finished last year on an unassailable 11.3.

SCA's Mike Fitzpatrick cheekily suggested age might be catching up with Sandilands and Henderson.

Just in time ... Dan and Maz have pulled up from their death spiral.

"Everything has a cycle," he said. "Everything has a lifespan and perhaps this is the beginning of their twilight years."

Fitzpatrick also said Sandilands and Henderson were already past their best when they jettisoned 2DayFM for their new home on KIIS1065 last year.

"They were a brand that was in decline when they were on 2DayFM and they're an older brand now and KIIS is an older station," he said. "The halo effect that was there at the start has been coming off."

ARN's Duncan Campbell shrugged off any concerns over the performance of the station's breakfast team.

"They are still very strong and equal number one breakfast," he said. "They took a bit of a hit today but nothing we are concerned about at all. I expect that to bounce back over the next couple of books.

"You have to look at trends and consistency. ARN Sydney for the last 18 months has been the most consistent network. It's a little too early to sit on top of the pedestal and crow too loud. Let's wait and see where we end up at the end of the year."

On the AM dial, the story remains the same as it has almost for living memory, with 2GB shock jock Alan Jones grabbing a further two ratings points to look down on his competition from the lofty heights of 16 points.
