HAVE you ever wondered which sex would be more likely to travel back in time to kill Hitler?
Because researchers from the United States, Canada and Germany certainly did and they’ve just published their findings. Yes, seriously
The paper, published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, found women were less likely to use a time-travel machine to head back in history to assassinate the Nazi leader.
For the purpose of the study, researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 40 studies in which 6100 subjects were asked a series of questions concerning murder, torture and other morally conflicting issues.
In terms of the question specifically related to Hitler, it was discovered that 60 per cent of men were willing to kill the Führer, compared to 55 per cent of women.
Author of the paper Dr Paul Conway said the researchers found a gender bias in regards to all moral decision-making scenarios, not just the one involving killing Hitler.
“Men pretty much mainly rely on their logic,†he told Men’s Health.
“That doesn’t mean that women are not logical. Women and men are very similar in how much logic they apply.
“They both get it. They know that killing Hitler to stop WWII is better for everyone.â€
Mr Conway said the difference is men are more likely to just accept it needs to be done, while women struggle with the guilt of having to kill someone to achieve the goal.
However, Mr Conway admits this is not necessarily a bad thing and could be used to demonstrate why women would be better at leading a world free from war.
“I’ve kind of been arguing that a little bit,†he said.
