ROBBIE Farah’s broken hand is one of the most serious issues surrounding the Blues camp as they prepare for next week’s Origin decider, but he managed to make light of the situation as he performed a comedy routine for journalists at Coffs Harbour.

The incumbent NSW hooker produced the first in a string of humorous comments when responding to a question about what he could do with his injured hand at present.

“That’s a personal question,” said Farah, much to the amusement of the media pack.

When pressed on his rooming arrangements, it was suggested that he might be paired with his possible replacement Michael Ennis. However, there was one glaring problem with that proposal.

“Not unless we’re sharing a bed...there’s only one bed,” said Farah.

“I don’t know how that will go down. I like him but not that much.”

The Wests Tigers dummy-half suffered a broken metacarpal in his right hand during his side’s 35-12 loss to Penrith at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.

He failed to complete the game and was rushed straight to hospital where X-rays confirmed the injury.

The 31-year-old underwent surgery in a bid to be fit for Wednesday night’s third and final Origin match, having a plate and screw inserted into the hand.

A fractured metacarpal normally takes about three weeks to heal, but Farah will be hoping that he will be right to play just 10 days after suffering the injury.

Reacting to comments from Queensland Rugby League chairman Peter Betros that only a religious miracle would see him take his place alongside his NSW teammates in the decider, the premiership-winning player continued his hand at stand-up comedy.

“Apparently I’m related to Jesus Christ so if they want to give me some water I’ll turn it into wine for them,” he joked.

Should Farah be unable to prove his fitness, Cronulla Sharks rake Ennis is in line to take his place, and he trained with the NSW team after arriving in camp on Thursday morning.

Ennis participated in a number of sprints and ball-handling drills in the warm and sunny conditions as Farah watched on from the sidelines with his injured hand in a splint.

Despite being hit with a one-match suspension at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night, Ennis is eligible for State of Origin III next week.
