HE was a shoo-in to appear on Nine’s new series of The Farmer Wants A Wife, but Scott Mitchell was culled from the final line-up at the last minute and says he’s been left bitterly “disappointedâ€.
The single father-of-two from Culcairn, NSW was one of 10 farmers introduced to Australia via the show’s official Facebook page and was all but told he would certainly make the cut, along with five others. The 36-year-old stud farmer’s good looks and country charm drew plenty of interest from single ladies looking to apply. But last Thursday production company Fremantle Media called him to say he would no longer get his shot at finding love on screen, as they made way for Married At First Sight star Lachlan McAleer.
Capitalising on viewer interest in Lachlan, who revealed on ACA last week that his TV marriage with ‘wife’ Clare hadn’t worked out, Nine rushed the higher-profile bachelor into the mix for Farmer Wants A Wife.
Scott admitted he was embarrassed by Nine’s “disappointing†decision to replace him at the death. “I thought I’d let all my friends and family down,†he told Fairfax Media.
Speaking to Lachlan, 36, after it was revealed that he would appear on his second dating show for 2015, he described the casting call-up as “a whirlwind†and confessed he had “no idea†he would be taking the place of another hopeful farmer.
“I still have to look a little bit more into what’s involved.†he told news.com.au last week, adding, “I got a call from Channel 9 just yesterday wanting to do a story.â€
Scott, who even appeared on TV to promote Farmer Wants A Wife in recent weeks, spoke to news.com.au before discovering that he had been dumped from the show.
“It’s been a bit of a struggle lately,†he said of his last few years as a single father. “It [the series] gives me a bit more exposure that I would never have got beforehand.â€
But after a tumultuous week, Scott says he’s over the initial disappointment and is ready to move on from the experience and dive into the dating game.
And he shouldn’t have too much trouble. Agricultural newspaper The Land reports Scott has been inundated on social media by messages from single women, with numerous Facebook friend requests.
The AFL enthusiast even has his first paid modelling gig at a bridal fair in Albury this weekend.
Lachlan, who lives on a farm in the rural outskirts of Sydney’s south, joins farmers Adam from Victoria, Julz from South Australia, Lance from Queensland, Jedd from South Australia, and Matt from Western Australia.
“I don’t think I’ll do anything differently, when you get cameras around you, your natural personality comes out,†the soon-to-be reality TV regular said of his next stint on TV.
The Farmer Wants A Wife will air on Nine later this year.
