IT’S been described as the catch of the year, which considering there have been almost 1000 games played in the current Major League Baseball season, is a quite a unique accolade.
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson is renowned for pulling off the spectacular. But it’s doubtful he would have produced any better than this.
Just 24 hours after a dad feeding a baby took a classic one-hander in the stands at Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs, Donaldson literally flew into the bleachers to make his special snaffle.
With pitcher Marco Estrada trying to preserve a perfect game, Donaldson tracked the ball off the bat of Rays hitter David De Jesus to edge of the seating area before launching a dive to grab the ball left handed in what was probably the third row.
The fans, who were hoping to pick up a prized possession, were clearly in shock. As was the Rays dugout and the player himself.
