The high-profile pair have been friends for years but sources confirmed they are now in a relationship.

Sources close to the 45-year-old singer told TMZ that Packer, 47, had been “aggressively pursuing Mariah for months, and he succeeded.”

They met through American filmmaker Brett Ratner, whom it was rumoured Carey had been dating at one stage.

The couple has been secretly dating for weeks, with the relationship made public on Friday after a photograph of the pair holding hands in one of Packer’s favourite holiday spots, Capri, Italy surfaced.

A source said the pair are sailing around the Mediterranean on Packer’s yacht, with the couple soon bound for Cannes and St Tropez.

Carey is the Packer’s first public girlfriend since his shock split with model Erica Baxter in 2013. He and Baxter, who have three children, remain close friends.

The 47-year-old Crown Casino’s boss was dating Australian Victoria Secret’s model Miranda Kerr last year, although both publicly denied they were ever together.

Packer also took Kerr on a romantic holiday on his yacht during their courtship.

Carey split from her husband of six years, comedian and presenter Nick Cannon, in June 2014. They have two children together, twins Moroccan and Monroe.

It was a noticeably trimmer Packer photographed with Carey on Friday. Sources said Carey was “the inspiration” behind his latest weight loss.
