A NSW victory is as safe as houses tomorrow night.

While they start the Melbourne clash one game down, building analysts said history showed a Blues win was well and truly on the drawing board.

BIS Shrapnel’s Adrian Hart said 17 of the last 19 Origin series had been dominated by the state that built more infrastructure and housing that year — and this year that’s NSW.

If the trend continues the Blues will steal back-to-back wins over Queensland this year and take out the 2016 series as well.

“Rugby league teams and construction both have cycles of ups and downs, but remarkably they’ve mirrored each other,” Mr Hart said.

He explained that between 1996 and 2005, NSW was building more than Queensland and the Maroons won just two series.

That changed in 2006 as Queensland entered a construction boom and the Maroons won eight Origin series in a row.

The Queensland boom subsided last year and the Blues won Origin.

This year NSW building remains well above that of Queensland and is forecast to remain that way next year. Housing Industry Association figures show NSW is set to build 49,000 homes next year, compared with Queensland’s 38,000.

“The construction momentum has definitely shifted in favour of NSW suggesting more Blues series victories ahead,” Mr Hart said.

“By contrast, Queensland’s prospects have weakened. On and off the field, those eight years were an impressive feat. Will Queensland’s ageing champions break the cycle? We’ll have to see.”

Western Sydney resident Sanjin Muhic, who recently purchased a house and land package with Allam Property, said further recovery in NSW home building would be great for both the Blues and the market.

“If this pattern continues and the Blues win this week’s game that would be fantastic,” Mr Muhic said. “But we also need more choice of homes to buy. It doesn’t feel like there are many new homes available.”
