YOUNG guns Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis have the chance to pen a glorious new French Open chapter on Saturday night as they prepare to ambush Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
Kokkinakis, 19, takes on world No 1 Novak Djokovic in the most important match of his young career, while Kyrgios, 20, bids to add world No 3 Andy Murray’s scalp to those of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
In what is the biggest occasion for Australian men’s tennis since Lleyton Hewitt contested the 2005 Australian Open final, Kokkinakis and Kyrgios are rank outsiders to win.
Kokkinakis is rated a TAB $15 to up-end Djokovic ($1.01), while Kyrgios is at $6 to down Murray ($1.11).
Undaunted, both believe they are primed for the performance of their lives.
Australia’s last singles survivors, the Special Ks have been given feature courts to strut their stuff against two of the sport’s most decorated operators.
Kokkinakis has been allocated to Court Philippe Chatrier - the largest and most prestigious stage at Roland Garros.
He has never faced Djokovic in battle before and is vowing to go out and play his own game, regardless of the surrounds.
Seeded 30th, Kyrgios believes he can win - and said as much on Friday (EST), just as he did before he rolled Nadal at Wimbledon last year.
