ADAM Goodes’ post-goal celebration against Carlton seems to have divided the football and general public.

Here’s what the footy world is saying following the Swans champ’s ‘war cry’.

ADAM GOODES

“It was inspired by the under 16 Boomerang kids who taught us to do the war cry. It’s Indigenous Round and I’m proud to be Aboriginal, and representing.”

CHRIS JOHNSON (former AFL indigenous talent manager, Lions premiership star)

“It is about saying, we are here ready to play. It is more about saying, this is my territory, this is my land. It is a war cry but it’s nothing to do with going to war.”

ED CURNOW (Carlton midfielder)

“I respect Goodesy and what he has done for the game, and for Australians, he is a champion. I’m sure the celebration was to do with his culture and he is showing emotion and passion and I respect that.”

TED RICHARDS (Sydney Swans defender)

“My personal opinion is it’s been an overreaction. If say, some indigenous players were to do a similar thing today (Saturday) in whatever game they’re playing in or tomorrow, all of a sudden we might have a great tradition that indigenous round players doing something and this is a celebration rather than an issue ... I thought it was a real highlight of the game last night.”

MICHAEL O’LOUGHLIN (Former Sydney Swans teammate)

“It was a very special moment in this country. The only problem is Adam can’t dance to save himself but I would give him 10 out 10 for effort.”

JOHN LONGMIRE (Sydney Swans coach)

“Look to be honest as a coach you don’t sit there and look at players after goals, you’re actually moving onto the next thing. I caught the very end of it on one of the replays, so I didn’t see it live, I only saw a tiny bit of it. I was a bit unaware of it during the course of the game, about the interest in it. I was more concerned about beating Carlton.”

MARK MACLURE (Former Carlton great and now commentator)

“I didn’t see a lot wrong with it,” Maclure said on ABC Grandstand. “He spoke (afterwards) and it was clear that what he was trying to do was feasible.”

(on Friday night Maclure had called Goodes’ actions “unbelievable” and said he hadn’t “understood what Goodes was trying to do”)
