AS music lovers of all types converge on Melbourne for the International Jazz Festival this week, we have a look at the home music rooms and recording studios were musicians hone their craft.
Realestate.com.au Head of Sales Tom Ainsworth said there were many homes listed for sale which had dedicated music rooms.
“Creativity happens when you feel comfortable and often this occurs in the home,’’ he said.
The drummer of longstanding Australian band Wolverines, John Clinton and his wife Kim are trying to sell off their Dural property in New South Wales which has a dedicated music room.
The couple are seeking offers over $2.495 million for the house which was a HIA award winner.
It has rooftop gardens plus a wet edge pool.
Clinton said they had recorded eight albums in the home music room.
“When I first moved in with my wife Kim, the rooms were all square. A drummer needs round rooms so I made sure they were by redesigning the house,’’ he said.
At Coorabell in northern New South Wales a seven-bedroom home with a full music studio is on the market for $3 million.
The home at 809 Coolamon Scenic Drive is home to The Music Farm.
The original three-bedroom farmhouse has been fully renovated. There are also two separate cottages on the property which was originally a dairy farm.
The Music Farm was created in the seventies when a musician used his family inheritance to realise his dream of building a place where musicians could live and work in a creative and stimulating atmosphere.
It has state-of-the-art recording equipment. Cold Chisel was one of the first groups to record in the rebuilt studios and other groups including Radiators, Yothu Yindi, Olivia Newton John, Kylie Minogue, Richard Clapton and Tommy Emmanuel have recorded there.
There must be something creative in the water in the Northern New South Wales hinterland with another music studio at Coorabell also on the market.
Lot 1 Keys Rd, is also listed for $3 million.
There is a five-bedroom home on the property which also houses the Rockinghorse recording studios.
There are two fully equipped recording studios on the property which the owner would consider selling without the equipment.
In Western Australia, $1.275 million will secure you a home at 23 Franklin Rd, Wanneroo which has purpose built recording studios, voice over booths, commercial sets, offices and store rooms.
There are also living areas and four bedrooms.
There is a long term commercial lease in place at the moment.
While it doesn’t have a designated music room this home at 22 Royal Albert Crescent, Sovereign Islands has an enclave set aside for a piano with a large music themed mural on the wall. The home has six bedrooms and is listed for $5.95 million.
It was designed by award-winning architect David Callson.
