THEY often get ranked fairly low on popularity lists alongside journalists and used car salesmen, but a new research has found the majority of people are happy with their real estate agents.
In fact 68 per cent of those surveyed said they would recommend the agent they used to family of friends.
The Consumer Perceptions of Real Estate Agents report by CoreLogic RP Data found that 66 per cent of vendors surveyed, said their overall experience selling their home was a positive one.
About a third of respondents said they would stay in touch with an agent they had used and use them again in the future.
Despite the feel good responses vendors also identified where they felt agents needed to work harder.
They felt some agents could be more transparent around pricing properties, and managing the expectations of vendors.
CoreLogic RP Data head of real estate solutions Kylie Davis said real estate agents were there to represent the interests of the seller.
“The survey shows that the majority of vendors who use an agent have a much better experience than urban myth would have us believe, although there is still room for improvement,’’ she said.
Of the vendors surveyed a quarter said they had sold for more than they thought they would.
Many sellers were doing research before they selected someone to sell their property and choose their agent based on seeing them in action selling a property locally.
About 15 per cent of respondents said their agent had not followed up with them well enough.
There were 300 vendors surveyed for the research, which also found that female agents were more likely to achieve higher scores when it came to exceeding the expectations of their clients.
On the other hand female agents also had a higher proportion of clients who were disappointed with their service.
