A WOMAN has been sexually assaulted during an armed burglary in regional Victoria by attackers wearing vests with the word “police†on them.
Police say they are looking for two men who broke into a rural Lancefield property in the Macedon Ranges early on Friday.
The men entered the property around 2am armed with a gun and wearing dark-coloured balaclavas and yellow fluorescent vests with the word “police†on them.
They woke up a 36-year-old woman and 42-year-old man and tied them up before searching the house for money.
Police say the woman was taken into a bedroom and sexually assaulted.
Investigators believe the house was mistakenly targeted.
“The offenders were making demands for money, which the victims didn’t have,†said Sexual Crime Squad Detective Sergeant Shane Manuell.
“We believe at this early stage that this may have been a case of mistaken identity or an instance where the offenders have been given the wrong information about this address.
