The new owner of the Point Piper mansion Villa Del Mare has been revealed as Australian Lola Wang Li.

The Pyrmont resident has been named on a caveat for the $39 million property registered with the NSW Land & Property information. A caveat effectively holds the property, not allowing any other buyers to come in.

The sale of the multi-million dollar property, arguably one of the country’s finest homes, had become embroiled in controversy.

In March Treasurer Joe Hockey ordered the former owner to sell the property within 90 days after it was discovered to have been illegally purchased.

The property had been bought by Golden Fast Foods, a shelf company of one of China’s wealthiest men, Xu Jiayin.

Little is known of the buyer. However it is known that the 48-year-old Mrs Li was born in China and is listed as a director of a company called LL International.

In 2007 she paid $2.7 million for a luxury apartment on Darling Island Rd, Pyrmont.

It is understood she has a $1 million mortgage on the waterfront Pyrmont apartment.

The latest development follows the announcement this month by Mr Hockey that the Point Piper mansion had been sold.

“The property that has been reported has been resold to an Australian citizen,” Mr Hockey told Reuters at the time.
