Australian crafts, home decor and party essentials retailer, Spotlight, says it plans a network of 50 superstores across southeast Asia.
Spotlight Malaysia will open its third store in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur on April 11, with further store openings already on the agenda.
Spotlight has operated a store in Singapore for around 20 years, and debuted in Malaysia in July last year.
“Singapore and now Malaysia are the start of our southeast Asian rollout of more than 50 stores,†deputy chairman of Spotlight Retail Group, Zac Fried, said in a statement.
The newest Malaysia store is at The Mines Shopping Mall in Selangor. The mall is operated by CapitaMalls Asia, Spotlight’s landlord in Singapore, and Fried says Spotlight will be working with CapitaMalls to secure other locations.
“We are excited to be expanding into The Mines Shopping Mall and giving more Malaysians the chance to shop from our huge range of products, all under one roof,†he said.
“Moving forward, our intention is to open more Spotlight stores in Malaysia. We currently have a number of locations in the final stages of review. We are also looking forward to growing our long and prosperous relationship with CapitaMalls Asia.â€
The superstores stock home furnishings, bedding, home decor, dress and fashion, fabrics, craft, hobby, and party essentials.
The first Spotlight Malaysia store opened at Ampang Point, the second last month at the Ikano Power Centre.
The Mines store is the largest to date, taking up 31,000sqft of retail space and housing more than 100,000 products across all categories.
It will be the 127th Spotlight store globally and the 180th in the Spotlight Group, which also includes the Anaconda outdoors chain.
Spotlight’s first store opened in Melbourne, Australia in 1973 and has since spread across Australia, New Zealand, and southeast Asia.
