RESTING peacefully on her mother’s chest, snuggled into a soft pink blanket, little Maggie Kruger McPherson is blissfully unaware of how long her parents have waited for this moment.

Mum and dad, Sonia Kruger and TV executive Craig McPherson, cannot contain their joy at finally holding their miracle girl, born yesterday at 8.24am in a Sydney hospital.

“It has certainly been worth the wait,” Kruger, 49, said.

“She was certainly ready to make her entrance, weighing in at a healthy 3.8kg.

“Without a doubt it’s been the best day of my life.”

Kruger revealed her daughter’s name combined tradition with humour.

“We’ve named her Maggie after my mother and the baby from The Simpsons. If you knew my family you’d understand,” she joked.

Maggie’s arrival marks the end of a long journey to parenthood for the couple, who started trying for a child together soon after meeting.

Despite conceiving naturally, the pregnancies ended in miscarriage. At 45, Kruger turned to IVF without success

“The doctors were very clear with me, too, that for women over the age of 45, which was the age we attempted IVF, the success rate is zero,” she said in an interview in 2012.

“You still believe it can happen, you see stories and you think, maybe that can happen for us, but the odds are definitely very slim.”

Kruger travelled to South Africa to receive an egg anonymously donated, but the procedure did not work.

A chance meeting with Melbourne fertility specialist “baby whisperer” Dr Lynn Burmeister on Mornings renewed her hope.

“At that point, you’re not giving up trying but I kind of had a bit of a break from trying,” she said.

A friend, whom Kruger has not named publicly, then agreed to donate an egg to the couple — resulting in the pregnancy they longed for.

The new mum yesterday celebrated her joy on social media, posting a picture of Maggie’s feet in the same tiny kitten socks used to announce the pregnancy.

“Guess what ... they fit! Little Maggie Kruger McPherson born this morning. #happybirthday #babygirl,” she wrote.

But Kruger’s glowing smile, really said it all. “It is an amazing feeling to finally meet our baby girl,” she said.
