A DAD has been faced with an impossible choice after finding out that his potentially life-saving liver donation can only help one of his sick twin daughters.

Michael Wagner’s three-year-old girls both suffer from a rare genetic disorder called Alagille syndrome,Huffington Post reports. The syndrome affects their livers which doctors say are slowly dying.

Mr Wagner has discovered that he is a match to donate part of his liver to one of the twins, called Binh and Phuoc, who were adopted from Vietnam by Mr Wagner and his wife Johanne.

The choice of which girl gets the transplant has been taken out of Mr Wagner’s hands after the family told doctors at Toronto General Hospital it was too hard a decision for them to make.

“We told them we didn’t want to be burdened with the decision making,” Mrs Wagner told Huffington Post from the family home in Kingston, Canada.

She said doctors were expected to perform the surgery in about two weeks. In the meantime the family has started a Facebook page to attract attention to their plight and try and encourage more potential donors to come forward.
