AN Indonesian court will decide whether an Australian man on drugs charges should be jailed for up to 20 years or rehabilitated for his dependence on marijuana.
Andrew Roger, 52, has been in Indonesian custody for eight months after police found marijuana, crystal meth and various pills in his home at Surabaya, East Java.

Prosecutors want the former Darwin resident to serve 16 years in prison, because of the quantity and variety of drugs involved.
But Roger’s lawyers argue he has a proven marijuana dependence and should be treated as an addict — and therefore sentenced to a maximum four years’ jail and rehabilitation.
In court last week, the waste management contractor pleaded with judges for their compassion.
He said a 16-year term amounted to a life sentence because of his age and poor health.
When Roger was arrested, he was still being treated for injuries from a motorbike crash that almost claimed his leg.
He has told the court he also suffers anxiety, panic and insomnia if he doesn’t smoke pot, and had made attempts at rehab in Australia and Indonesia.
A father of adult children and a grandfather, Roger said his months in jail had been “terrorâ€.
“The mental effect and terror of this has been incredible,†he said.
“Nothing in my previous 52 years of life has prepared me for this.â€
Roger is scheduled to be sentenced in Surabaya District Court on Monday afternoon.
