Specialist officers had been negotiating with the Mt Isa man all afternoon. When they arrived at the Short St property at 12.45pm the man is alleged to have made threats against police.

He also reportedly had a rifle with him.

Police entered the garage of the property just after 6pm and made the arrest. No one was injured during the incident.

Cordons had been put in place and people in the area asked to stay indoors while police dealt with the situation.
