FORMER ‘NSYNC member Lance Bass has married artist Michael Turchin in an over the top, made-for-TV wedding.
Bass, 35 and Turchin, 27 staged their extravagant nuptials at the Park Plaza hotel in Los Angeles, recording the entire event for an upcoming reality special Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding.
Former band member Justin Timberlake was notably absent (“on tourâ€) but the 300 or so guests included Lisa Vanderpump, former ‘NSYNC band mates JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick and Precious star Gabourey Sidibe.
Actresses JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Jamie-Lynn Sigler officiated.
In an earlier interview with E! Online, Bass described the feel of the wedding as “very classyâ€, despite admitting his taste is “borderline tackyâ€.
“We wanted to plan something that could last for 100 years,†says Bass. “When we show our grandchildren this amazing tape of our wedding, the best wedding video ever, I want them to be able to look at this and be like ‘Wow, that stood the test of time.’ So we’re using a lot of elements in the wedding that are classy and one of those is definitely our first dance. The song we chose is a song that lasts forever, something that is very special to us.â€
The dress code was “a royal wedding but at the Met ball,†People reports.
“I want our guests to look back at photos from our wedding and think, ‘That’s the best I’ve ever looked in my entire life.’,†Bass told Brides.com in the lead-up to the big day.
“I don’t know if it’s because my name is Lance, and I was just obsessed with Sir Lancelot, and that medieval times and royal everything, but I like to have a royal feel, and that’s what it’s going to feel like. Something very grandiose.†Bass told E! Online, “My only note to the guests were ‘I want you to pretend like you’re going to a royal wedding at the Met ball.’ So it can be over the top, high fashion, and just incredible fashion, and that just kind of set the tone for the wedding right there.â€
The couple used Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding planner, Sharon Sacks, who managed to include Bass and Turchin’s three dogs in the wedding party as well as rising to the challenge of melding traditions from Bass’s southern Baptist upbringing and Turchin’s Jewish heritage.
The couple got together in December 2011 and Bass proposed in September 2013. Bass revealed his sexuality in a 2006 cover story for People magazine, and released an autobiography Out of Sync the following year. “I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys’ careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything,†Bass said, referring to band mates Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake.
