KEVIN Pietersen has had the door slammed shut on a possible shock recall to the England side — and it’s in part because of the firebrand’s incendiary autobiography.
The English Cricket Board sacked ODI skipper Alastair Cook at the weekend and replaced him with Sydney Thunder batsman Eoin Morgan, but he has already been told to forget about playing at the elite level with good mate Pietersen again.
ENGLAND VIEW: UPROAR OVER COOK SACKING
Pietersen, who was dismissed for one run in Melbourne Stars’ heavy Big Bash loss on Saturday night, has not represented England since last summer’s disastrous Ashes whitewash.
But the 34-year-old has repeatedly said he wants to play for England again and on Saturday tweeted about Morgan: “Top player, leader and bloke. Hope I get to play for him.â€
The top-order superstar jetted back to England last night for Christmas fresh from ECB boss Paul Downton emphatically ruling out a return.
“If anything more bridges have been burnt by Kevin’s book. There is no interest from our point of view in going backwards,†Downton said.
“We parted company with Kevin in January because throughout the ECB management, from the dressing room up to the board, it was felt that it was the right decision to go in a slightly different direction.â€
National selector James Whitaker reiterated that stance, declaring: “There is no way that Kevin Pietersen will ever get back into an England teamâ€.
Pietersen responded to the quotes from the ECB officials on Twitter late on Sunday night,.
Pietersen lashed out at former coach Andy Flower and wicketkeeper Matt Prior in his book.
He described the bullying culture in the English dressing room as “Horrendous. Hugely disturbing†and said he was sacked for “cricketing reasons†to prevent him taking legal action.
“He’s (Prior) one bloke that quite a few — I could count on more than one hand — have said: ‘Please can you tell the world what that guy’s like’.â€
Pietersen said this month he still harboured Test ambitions.
“I have 8300 runs — I’d love to get 10,000 Test runs,†he said.
“I’d love to beat Australia again ... last time, we got hammered.
“That doesn’t sit well — I’m not a player who likes being hammered, I’m a player who plays to win. I know I still have four or five years left.â€
The former England captain is the nation’s all-time leading scorer across all forms of cricket.
