AUSTRALIA have won the second cricket Test and leads the series against India 2-0 but looks set to make two changes for the Boxing Day match, with Mitchell Marsh unlikely to be fit and Ryan Harris confident of a return from injury.

Marsh strained a right hamstring during the first innings and did not bowl again.

He batted in both innings but moved with some discomfort as the Australians made hard work of a 128-run chase to win the Test match.

GIDEON HAIGH: Everywhere you looked, there was Smith

“Mitch Marsh was struggling a little bit yesterday and struggling a little bit with his running today as well. I think the physio and doctor will make a decision in the next couple of days,” captain Steve Smith said after today’s play.

David Warner copped a nasty blow on the thumb, a victim of the variable bounce as the Brisbane Gabba wicket broke up.

“I haven’t actually spoken to Davey, he is a tough little character so I am sure he will be pretty eager to get stuck in on Boxing Day,” Smith said.

Harris did not play in Brisbane after suffering a slight quad strain in the first match but has been running for the past two days.

“It’s going well, it was only a slight little strain,” he told Fox Sports News yesterday. “I have done some good rehab over the last couple of days, I had a good run … and there was no pain there, so it’s all looking up.”

Harris is likely to come in for Mitchell Starc, who had a mixed match, bowling poorly in the first innings, but returning to score an important half century when Australia batted the first time.

Starc had half-century partnerships with Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood, which proved critical and took 2-27 as India stumbled on days three and four.

“When he’s on he’s a very good bowler,” Smith said.

“For him it’s just about finding that happy medium where he gets his line and length right but still bowls at a good pace.

“Sometimes he might try a little bit too hard and sometimes he might just kind of put it there.

“He needs to find a happy medium where he can get a little bit of both and help build a bit of pressure, particularly on wickets like this one out here.”
