SEVEN officials from the Health Services Union have been referred to prosecutors by the royal commission into union corruption.

THE Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions has been asked to consider charges against the group for making false statements.

The inquiry also referred another official for aiding and abetting the contraventions of her colleagues. In order to enter workplaces, union officials must obtain a permit from the Fair Work Commission. Each application contains a declaration that the permit holder has received appropriate training in right of entry. To prove online training was completed, potential permit holders had to sit an online test. The report says two union officials had sat the test on behalf of several colleagues. There were also separate allegations levelled at Diana Asmar concerning the discharge of her duties as union secretary, but these were not dealt with in the interim report released on Friday. The claims included autocratic hiring and firing of staff, appointing friends to paid positions, bullying and attempting to undermine democratic elections. The report is also critical of TWU and AWU officials' involvement in HSU internal elections and their related slush funds.
