IT’S official: singer Sam Smith is lovelorn no more. That’s right, the British crooner known for his heartbreaking ballads finally has a boyfriend.

In an interview with British newspaper The Sun this week, the 22-year-old reveals that he’s started up a relationship with one of the extras in his latest music video.

In the clip for his latest single Like I Can, Smith runs around New York with a group of more than a dozen suit-clad men — and it seems that one of them, an extra by the name of Jonathan, caught his eye.

“It’s very early days. I’m talking very, very, very early days. But he’s really sweet,” Smith told The Sun.

Slightly worryingly, Smith then went on to say that Jonathan himself might not know that he’s in a relationship with him.

“It’s a surreal thing to be talking about because I haven’t even confirmed with him that we’re officially seeing each other.”

Better get on the phone then, Sam. The Stay With Me singer has been very open about his love life — or lack thereof — since bursting to fame earlier this year, revealing that he’d never had a proper boyfriend and that many of the songs on his debut album In The Lonely Hour were in fact written about a married friend he had long pined after.

Let’s hope he has more luck with Jonathan — he’s certainly bagged a cutie. Our only worry: Smith’s built his career on songs of longing and heartbreak. Should we expect a comfortably loved-up album from him next?
