SOMETIMES the most obvious answer is the correct one, as a game show contestant discovered the hard way last night.
Whitney Beseler kicked off Millionaire Hot Seat’s episode on Tuesday but stumbled at the very first hurdle — the introductory $100 question, typically a pretty obvious one to ease people in.
The Contiki tour manager from Ballarat was asked: “Which of these is not a piece of jewellery commonly worn to symbolise a relationship between two people?â€
Instead of the gag answer — ‘burger ring’ — Beseler seemingly misheard the question and locked in ‘anniversary ring’ instead.
QUIZ MASTER: Are you smarter than Eddie McGuire?
WHAT THE?: Another contestant epically fails on Hot Seat
Host Eddie McGuire could barely contain his amusement as the studio audience erupted into laughter. It took Beseler a while to realise her mistake.
“Oh my God, burger ring!†she exclaimed. “Oh, Eddie — that is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me. Can we cut and start again please?â€
But her chance to bag a stack of cash was dashed and she was sent away, leaving the remaining contestants to battle it out for the top prize.
But at the end of the show, McGuire welcomed the embarrassed Beseler back onto the set to received a consolation prize — a packet of Burger Rings.
Millionaire Hot Seat airs weekdays at 5.30pm on Channel Nine.
