Josh Hazlewood will make his Test debut in Brisbane after being included in Australia's XI for the second Test starting Wednesday.

Peter Siddle has been dumped while Ryan Harris has been ruled out with an injured quadriceps muscle, replaced by left-armer Mitchell Starc.

Steve Smith has lifted himself up the batting order to No.4 in his debut Test as captain. It will be a vastly different looking pace attack to the one which found the going tough on an unfriendly wicket in Adelaide.

Harris could not be considered after pulling up sore from the first Test. He left training early on Tuesday.

Hazlewood, 23, will become Test cap No.440.

Siddle has paid the price for an ordinary performance last week, when he was down in pace and battling an illness which resulted in him being off the field for extended periods on day three. Starc, who played in the second Test in the UAE, returns after missing last week's series-opener against India.

Smith said the pitch would suit Hazlewood. "I'm looking forward to seeing him zing a few though on a fast and bouncy wicket."

"Ryan Harris pulled up a little stiff and sore from Adelaide, he's got a slight quad-strain," Smith said. "With Starc, we wanted to play a bowler with a bit of pace and bounce.

"Mitchell deserves his spot, he's bowled well with NSW in the Sheffield Shield. It's obviously very disappointing for Peter Siddle who's been a terrific bowler for a long period of time. He's not out of the loop, he's still around the team and hopefully he'll play another game soon."

Australian team: Chris Rogers, David Warner, Shane Watson, Steve Smith (c), Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
